How Volkswagen and Samsung are collaborating to design safer vehicles

A glimpse into the future of tech manufacturing is peering into the past. Ford Motor Company’s venture capital arm announced it has been working with Samsung to forge a closer relationship between Silicon Valley and Detroit, designed to support future-forward research and development.

The partnership will attempt to bring the substantial manufacturing resources and advanced engineering skills of the company’s Detroit facility to light in the tech sector’s laboratories.

“The companies aim to accelerate innovation by addressing problems that are relevant and technical on a much deeper level, such as managing software, sensing, and managing diversity,” the companies announced.

These are some of the challenges that Ford believes can be transformed by advances in silicon technology. The research activities will also include work related to water, oil, and products that make up the bulk of the car industry: gearboxes, fuel systems, and the production of electronics.
