PNT learned Tuesday afternoon of the death of former NFL receiver Demaryius Thomas. He was 33.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, he was taken off life support after his cause of death remained unknown.
Thomas was the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft and enjoyed a 15-year career with the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans. He played his last game in the league in the third quarter of the Texans’ 47-34 playoff loss to the Jaguars last January.
During his time with the Broncos, Thomas posted 344 catches for 4,379 yards and 42 touchdowns in 371 games.
Thomas was released by the Texans after training camp in August, and he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in September, but failed to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. He wound up on injured reserve for the first time in his career. He would later join the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and play in the AFL’s Arizona Hotshots.
In a statement on Twitter, Thomas’s family praised his former teammates and praised him as “a man who put others before himself.”
“We would like to thank every team that we played on, and every person that supported us, for this unbelievable experience,” they said. “We want to thank all of the fans and you guys that said thank you for all the support and love you gave our family. As my family said to me, ‘When someone makes a mistake, it’s all about how you respond.’ God is the greatest.”
Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib and fellow Broncos player Derek Wolfe left an Orange Bowl party on the campus of Louisiana Tech in 2017. Their police escorts alerted authorities to the car in question before they departed and neither player was arrested or charged with a crime. No arrests have been made for this incident.
