Competing under the slogan “Discerning Chile,” the pair are contending over who best reflects the people and culture of the country and its future.
This run-off vote “is between supporters of a discredited discredited political system and those of a revived political system,” Nicolas Pica Porto, one of the seven independent candidates who participated in the first round of voting, said earlier.
Polls have shown the two leading candidates roughly neck-and-neck.
Pica Porto, a physician, lawyer and political novice, won 18 percent of the vote, while Pinera won 18.2 percent.
