Damian Lillard passes Kobe Bryant on NBA scoring list

(Los Angeles, November 26, 2018) — Damian Lillard shot 10 for 15 for 27 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists Sunday to beat Damian Lillard was just 13 for 24 for 30 points and 11 rebounds and eight assists Sunday to beat the Golden State Warriors 100-93 at Staples Center and set an NBA record for points by a guard in his record-setting seventh game of the season.

The Portland Trail Blazers guard broke his previous best total of 88 points set last week against the Phoenix Suns. He passed Kobe Bryant’s record of 89 points set in 2001. Bryant retired from the NBA and the Los Angeles Lakers after his record.

When the score tied at 96 with 1:29 left, Lillard passed ex-Clipper Chris Paul for sixth on the NBA career list with 6,777 points, passing Raymond Felton for sixth place.

Two minutes later, Lillard passed Bryant for fourth in career 3-pointers with 3,250. He passed Marc Gasol for fifth place with his 984th in the third quarter, passing Reggie Miller for fifth.

In the first half, Lillard hit a 3-pointer and extended his perfect start to the season with his 100th point when he passed Michael Jordan for third place on the NBA’s career list with his 47th career 3-pointer, trailing only Kobe Bryant (762) and LeBron James (762).

Lillard tied for first with Karl Malone with 51 points, and also tied Andre Miller with 53 3-pointers.

Golden State went 6 of 20 from the field (21.6 percent) in the second half and committed 12 turnovers.

Rookie Jordan Bell led the Warriors with 19 points, while Kevin Durant scored 21 and Klay Thompson added 20. Lillard was plus-14 in the second half and finished plus-29 for the game.

The Warriors shot 35.9 percent in the second half and went 10 for 25 from 3-point range (42.5 percent). The Warriors led by as many as eight points in the third quarter before Lillard scored 11 points in a span of 2:50 to give the Trail Blazers a 70-68 lead entering the fourth quarter.
